What effect does regular physical activity have on health?

The dizzying pace of life and long list of responsibilities often does not allow us to find time for physical activity. After a full day of work and domestic commitments, we only dream of finally getting some rest. However, we should try to reorganize our daily schedule at least a little to set aside a minimum of 30 minutes a day for exercise – such recommendations come from the World Health Organization. This is very important, as the number of overweight and obese people is constantly increasing, and this in turn promotes other serious diseases, including problems with the heart, blood pressure, liver, kidneys or spine.

Besides, regular physical activity has a very positive effect on our body and well-being. It allows us to maintain or build a good condition and improves our fitness, so we will be able to exercise more intensively in the future and get less tired. It is also not insignificant for daily functioning. Why? Running to the bus stop when we are in a hurry to get to work, or climbing the stairs when the elevator breaks down in the office, will not be a big problem with better fitness.

During exercise, the body gets oxygenated, and the blood supply to major organs, including the brain and heart, improves. This in turn is associated with better concentration, as well as more energy. Physical exertion also helps to improve the body’s immune system, eliminate stress, and strengthen muscles that, among other things, stabilize the spine and relieve pressure on it. Not to be forgotten is the shaping of a dream figure and the possibility of shedding excess weight. In addition, people who move regularly are less likely to experience sleep problems. Regular physical activity can also help prevent many diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and the development of hypertension. It also reduces the risk of developing thromboembolic complications, which can sometimes be directly life-threatening.

Movement is also joy. When you exercise, endorphins, popularly known as happy hormones, are secreted, which effectively improve your mood.

How to get started?

The most important thing is to choose the kind of activity that will give us pleasure. Otherwise, exercise will be associated with an unpleasant chore, making it very difficult to do regularly. This activity can be many things – swimming, fitness classes, attending an outdoor or traditional gym, running, or even a simple walk. In this age of tremendous technological development, it is possible to exercise while having fun. This is possible thanks to game consoles, which offer all sorts of add-ons based on virtual reality or kinetic sensors. There are many interesting sports and even dance games to choose from. Whichever option we choose, it is important to remember to be systematic and to warm up, which will prepare us for the effort, while reducing the risk of injury.
